Three friends and I took the train from Geneva on Thursday night to
Stresa, Italy, which is on Lake Maggiore. The plan was to overnight at
the Grand Hotel Bristol, walk around a bit in the morning, and then, to
lunch at a 3-star Michelin restaurant in Soriso.
Stresa
is full of little winding cobblestone streets and a fantastic variety
of tourist-tat shops–though it must be said that I did buy a very fine hat there.
This morning we took a very short boat ride over to Isola Bella, where we toured the most jaw-droppingly tacky pile I have ever seen. House, statuary, gardens, and, oh, the white peacocks! What a collection.

And . . . lunch? You’ll have to wait for details of the menu!
